Every year, South By South West (SXSW) takes over downtown Austin, TX for almost two weeks, celebrating technology, film, and music. The festival and conference was started in 1987 as a way to converge interactive, film, and music industries for professionals and fans. The music portion of the festival lasted for an entire week, leaving downtown Austin rocking all day long. You could walk down 6th Street and hear a different genre of music coming out of every single bar. It was remarkable to see hundreds of bands—no matter how big or small—come together and play for festival attendees.

Bands from all over the globe come to participate in official and unofficial showcases throughout the week. Some rock day parties and others wait around until 1 AM before they take the stage. The days at SXSW are long, but between the panels and live music, you have so much to keep you going. Every day you are out from 9 AM to 2 AM, and you may be exhausted by the end of the week, but it is totally worth it. SXSW is a great, welcoming place for industry professionals and fans to meet, learn, and appreciate bands from all over the world.
